By the way I really, really, really, really want a M and M belt; the yellow one that the workers are given when they start work at M&M Mars. Internet please get one for me. Thanks Internet; I'm counting on you. (I have a feeling I will be counting for a very long time.)

The Mars-give-away site never mentions it's main rival: Hershey's--the company they are belittling. Hershey's has recently replaced cocoa butter with vegetable oil in some of their candies... (I believe Mars prefers not to mention that name in case people start craving Hershey's instead of MM's.)

Milky Way* is truly an awesome candy bar and Hershey's Kissables are definitely no threat to MM's, but Hershey's is still a huge mass producer of candy. (I do not like Kissables; they taste fake, and I wasn't surprised to learn they are not real milk chocolate--thus the 'chocolate candy' label Vs 'milk chocolate'.)

I love how Mars is making a point of talking about how much better their candy is, while not using the name of their rival--they've picked apart all of their ingredients and problems, so if anyone already knew they could follow along.

Naming Kissables or Hersheys, even with negative connotations could make people start craving the rival brand, or make people who adore kissables grumpy that they are being insulted.

This translated over to Christianity would be us talking about how great our lifestyle is compared to a sinners. While we shouldn't deny that sin has pleasure for a season (especially if that's mentioned) it's better to discuss the problems without getting too much into the details. Sometimes hearing about the specifics of drugs can pull a druggie back in, because he already wants it. Describing a drug high to a kid without also describing the low is what makes the kid consider using. (But denying that drugs feel good is a lie, and they know it, so we could lose our credibility that way.)

I've never touched drugs. This is just an example...

This give away has created great publicity, and almost free advertising for Mars.

This site with info on free M&M's had cat yodeling as one of the most recent news. So weird. I had to include that site

The giveaway started 5/8/09 and will continue until 9/25/09 on Fridays. Oh, They say they will only give 4 coupons per household, and one per week per email address. There are 250,000 available per Friday, and you have to be 13 or older. That's all the legal stuff I remember besides where they say, "It's a criminal offence to hurt our website, and if you damage it we will hurt you." (paraphrased of course)

*I had to google "Milky Way and 3 Musketeers" in order to remember which had Carmel and which contained only fluff. Did you know that 3 Musketeers used to have 3 candy bars per wrapper: a chocolate one, a strawberry one and a vanilla one?
